Description
Photograph of an exterior view of the Salvation Army Young Women's Boarding Home on Grand Avenue near Fifth Street in Los Angeles, ca.1915. The boarding house is a four story structure with a flat roof and four rows of rectangular windows. A series of fire escape ladders extends down the front of the building at left. The doorway is at center and is a large archway flanked by cylindrical columns. Above the doorway, the words "Salvation Army" are carved into the stone, and the words "Young Women's Boarding Home" appear higher on the structure. A utility pole is in the foreground at right, and a tree is at left. The sloping street in front of the building is paved with cobblestones or bricks.
