Title Crowds gathered around a man dressed as a dragon during the Chinese New Year Celebration, Chinatown, 1920-1929

Description Photograph of crowds gathered around a man dressed as a dragon during the Chinese New Year Celebration, Chinatown, 1920-1929. At center, a man can be seen wearing a decorative Chinese dragon head over his body. The body of the costume consists of elaborate patterns and cloths. Two men can be seen holding the tail of the costume so that it does not drag along the floor. Around the dragon, a large group of men and women can be seen watching the event. To the left of the dragon, a series of tables can be seen stacked on one another. On each table, a wooden chair has been placed. A single man stands below one of the tables and faces towards the demonstration.

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
