Description

Photograph of flooded street looking south on Crenshaw from Exposition, January 1930. In the foreground at right, a wide street can be seen beside a patch of dirt and vegetation at left. A large layer of water covers the road. At center, at least seven cars trudge through the water. Large waves churn beneath the tires of the automobiles. In the extreme background at center, additional automobiles can be seen. To the right, a row of small buildings are visible. Far beyond the road, a large mountain range extends from left to right. Previous record states: "Rain fell for 4-1/2 hours for a total of 1.41 inches". Back of photoprint reads: "Vermont and Adams Flooded, 1932. DPW".

Title California Historical Society Collection, 1860-1960

Description The California Historical Society Collection is incomparable for the documentary picture it provides of the growth of Southern California, particularly the development of the Los Angeles region, between 1860 and 1960. The collection contains more than 25,000 photographs. The full archive was placed on long-term deposit at USC in 1990 and includes the Title Insurance and Trust Company Collection, also known as TICOR, and the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection.
