Description
Photograph from a hill of the west side of the Los Angeles Plaza, ca.1873-1875. The three-story brick building is Pico House (constructed 1871). Also visible is the Merced Theater (constructed 1873) and Masonic Temple along Main Street. The Plaza itself is partially visible on the far left. The two large tanks (constructed 1867) on the near side of the street contain gas and are part of the first gas works.
