Description
Photograph of Calle de Los Negros (Negro Alley, colloquially referred to as "Nigger Alley" at the time) in Chinatown, Los Angeles, ca.1900-1930. A YMCA can be seen along the shopfront lining the right side of the street, above which the Upper Room Mission is situated. Telephone poles line the sidewalk, extending to the distance in the left of the photo, where an automobile is parked by several pedestrians. A white man in a hat and suit stands in the foreground at right, his hands on his hips.
