Description
Photograph of a view of Western Avenue looking north from Pico Boulevard, Los Angeles, ca.1926. The intersection of the two streets fills most of the foreground of the photo, while automobiles drive along Western Avenue further in the distance, which is lined to either side by high-rises and commercial advertisements as well as telephone poles on the left, and street lamps on the right. The Maylord Apartments building was built in 1920, and, as of March 2018, it still there, located at 1250 South Western Avenue. A woman is on a sidewalk bench to the left, underneath an Ocean Spray Cranberry Sauce sign. Other legible signs include: "[...] Baker / [...] Years of Faithful Service / 13 Stores", "Bus Stop", "Stop", "Burton & Co.", "West Coast Uptown Theatres", "Talking Pictures", "Big Golden Halves [...]", "Maylord Modern Apartments", "Fitzsimmons Grocery Stores", "Cash & Carry / Men's Suits Dresses", "1116 World Cleaners & Dyers", "[...] Laundry", "Kodak's-Kodak Finish [...]". One print is dated "1924".
