Description
Photograph of a fire station at Spring Street and Ninth Street, Los Angeles, ca.1887. An early horse-drawn fire engine with its pressurized pump stands in front of the two-story clapboard-veneered firehouse at center. A second wagon stands behind it, unadorned by equipment. Firemen and men in civilian clothes ride in both wagons. The engine driver is Michael McMahon. To the left of the driver of the hose cart is Jacob Kuhrts. Sitting on the hose is George Vail. On the rear step of the hose cart is Charles Fuselehr, with William Barry standing by the cart.
