Photograph of an exterior view of the front of the State Building under construction, 1920-1929. At center, an eleven-story Art Deco-style building is pictured, on a lot of flattened earth. The building itself appears complete, but the area surrounding it is still undeveloped. Three tall doorways stand at its center just to the left. A multi-lane highway is visible at right, extending into the city.

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
