Description
Photograph of detail of a painting by Monkascy, depicting Christ's crucifixion, [s.d.]. There are three men being crucified in the painting, all of them bearded and shirtless, clothed only in a cloth around their waists. Jesus is at the right of the picture, and three women are kneeling at the base of his cross, crying, while a man looks on. Behind the woman on the left is a turbaned man holding a hatchet and a ladder, and behind him is a large crowd. In the right foreground is a soldier in a chest plate and holding a spear, while in the center foreground is a surprised man wearing a turban and looking up at Christ. At the left of the painting are several mounted men, including soldiers, as well as two bearded, turbaned men conversing as they walk away from the crucifixion. Compares to CHS-9633 which shows a cropped version of the image.
