Description
Photograph of the painting "The Gladiators" by Italian artist Maccari, 1800-1899. Gladiators lie dead or stand in armor, filling the stadium while a man at center in a cloak appears to be accusing someone. The emperor's box can be seen to the right, while the general stands can be seen behind to the left, filled with the white togas of Roman citizens. Many of the spectators appear to be hooded.
