Photograph of an exterior view of the newly built Los Angeles County General Hospital, November 17, 1930. The large stone hospital building can be seen on a hill at center. It is composed of several connected rectangular sections. Rows of rectangular windows line all the walls of the flat-roofed building. A concrete retaining wall is visible in front of the hospital. In the foreground, a cement walkway runs across the image from right to left, cutting through an open dirt lot.

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
