Description
Photograph of the painting "The Angelus" by Millet, depicting a man and a woman at prayer on the farm, [s.d.]. The man stands to the left, with his head bowed and his hat in his hands, while the woman folds her hands in prayer to the right. Behind her, the wheelbarrow or plow can be seen in the morning mist, and to his right, the pitchfork can be seen plunged into the ground. Flatlands fill the rest of the background.; Picture file card reads: "In 1849, Millet went to Barbizon where he painted his series of great pictures, 'The Gleaners' is one of the greatest. It is almost as religious as 'The Angelus' while as a picture it is actually stronger".
