Description
Photograph of an exterior view of the residence of Senator Cornelius Cole, northwest of the corner of Santa Monica Boulevard and Grove Street, ca.1886. The house is a large, two-story building with a covered porch and a covered balcony that wrap around the entire house. There is a carved wooden railing around both the porch and the balcony, and carved wooden posts hold up the overhangs. There are two stairways leading up to the porch, one at left and one at right. There is a woman standing on the porch at center, and the house is surrounded by trees and bushes. Picture file card reads "Colegrove now Hollywood".

Description
The nearly 15,000 unique photographs of this collection contain the work of C.C. Pierce which cover the Los Angeles region city, street and architectural views, California Missions, Southwestern Native Americans, and turn-of-century Nevada, Arizona, and California. Pierce, active from 1886 to 1940, was one of the leading photographers of his day and amassed a collection of 15,000 images, including his own and those bought and copied from his contemporaries, George Wharton James and Charles Puck. The James collection contains over 2,000 images of portraits, customs, ceremonies, arts, and games of various groups of Southwestern Native Americans.
