Photograph of panoramic view of Los Angeles down Broadway, ca.1930-1939. In the extreme foreground at left, a decorative dome sits on the roof of a tall structure. In the foreground at center, a wide road can be seen extending into the extreme background at center. Several automobiles and railcars can be seen traveling along the road. Near the intersection in the background, crowds of people are visible crossing the road. To the left and right of the road, tall structures can be seen. A large American flag waves at the top of the structure at left. Legible signs include: "Adoir", "I.N. Van Nuys Building", "Loew's State", "John W[...]", and "Lankers".

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
