Photograph of panoramic view of downtown Los Angeles, showing Pershing Square and the Biltmore Hotel, ca.1935. In the foreground at center, a decorative, domed pinnacle tops an unseen structure. At center, several trees line a large grassy area. To the far right, a wide street can be seen extending into the background at center. Several cars move along the street or remain parked along the curb. Along the sidewalk, large structures can be seen running adjacent to the road. An American flag can be seen atop one of the larger structures. In the background at center, additional buildings can be seen. A small clock tower is visible near another flagpole above one of the structures.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
