Photograph of a view of Los Angeles from the roof of the Chamber of Commerce building, January 1930. Most of the buildings visible are large rectangular buildings with flat roofs or low warehouse-type structures. Several tall smokestacks can be seen in the background at right. The back of a sign held up by scaffolding can be seen in the foreground at left, while a tall, snow-topped mountain range is visible in the background at left.; Legible signs include, from left: "Good Eats Café Ground Floor this Building Always Open", "For Space in this Building Apply Room 620", "Rapid Addressing Machine Co. Belknap System", "Jaffe and Jaffe Advertising Agency", "California Importing & Jobbing Co.", "Koenig Co. Church Goods", and "D. M. & E. Walter & Co. Domestic and Oriental Rugs Carpets and Linoleum".

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
