Description
Photograph of an exterior view of the Sears Roebuck building being built, ca.1910-1940. A short, lightly-colored fence lines a roadway in the foreground which leads to the "Retail Entrance" of the building on the right. The building stands very large with a tower over its top right corner where a sign reads "Sears, Roebuck and Co". The left side is incomplete with supplies strewn about the ground around it.

Title
Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960
Description
The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
