Title
Los Angeles Civic Center looking north-east from Olive and First streets toward the west face of City Hall, showing Bunker Hill at left, ca.1940-1949
Description
Photograph of Los Angeles Civic Center looking north-east from Olive and First streets toward the west face of the City Hall, showing Bunker Hill at left, ca.1940-1949. The tree-spotted Bunker Hill stands in the left foreground with a full parking lot at its foot; the lot is located on the north-east corner of the intersection of Hill Street and First Street. Temple Street lies on the right continuing to the background. The tall Civic Center stands behind the hill and to the left of the street with its tall tower at center. The large building to the right of the City Hall is the old California State Building. The old Hall of Records can be seen to the left of the City Hall. More of the cityscape can be seen in the background.

Title
Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960
Description
The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
