Description

Photograph of the new State Building under construction, [s.d.]. In the foreground at center, a long hedge is visible. In the background, the large State Building can be seen. The structure is composed of several rectangular sections, and small rectangular windows line every side of the building. Near the top of the building, several metallic rods can be seen supporting a series of scaffolding along the side of the structure. At the base of the building, at least four men can be seen near a large doorway. At least two automobiles can be seen near the men.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
