Photograph of one-acre farms showing small home near El Monte, California, August 1927. In the extreme foreground at center, a paved road can be seen extending from left to right. Along the side of the road, patches of tall grass and weeds are visible. To the far right, a large tree stands on the corner of the lawn, while another tree sits at the center of the lawn. The tree at center partially obscures the home in the background. The single-level home shows two small windows and a covered entryway. Plants and ivy grow along the front of the house. To the far left, a small line of trees and bushes are visible.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
