Description
Photograph of an exterior view of Hazard's Pavilion (later the site of the Temple Auditorium) at the intersection of Fifth Street and Olive Street, Los Angeles, ca.1895. The three-story clapboard building features two towers annexed to either side of the main building. A paved path curves in to the left from the bottom center of the frame, lined to each side by grass, trees and other flora. The Pavillion was built in 1887; it contained 4,000 seats and cost a daunting $25,000 to build. In 1906, it was torn down and replaced by the Temple Auditorium, built by the Temple Baptist Church, which later became known as the Philharmonic Auditorium. A second large, mansion-like building can be seen in the distance to the left. Record file reads "Academy of Music".
