Description
Photograph of the exterior of Sisters' Hospital (the first Los Angeles County Hospital), operated by the Sisters of Charity and located on 1416 Naud Street between Anne Street and Sotello Street, midway between the Southern Pacific Railway River Station and Main Street, ca.1880. The hospital was built in 1858. About a dozen people are congregated on the second-floor balcony of the three-story wooden structure. Several people are on the first-floor porch or on the lawn in front of the building. Another two-story wooden building is visible at left. A tree is visible at right.; "Sept. 1, 1884, corner stone of new hospital was laid. 1886 old hospital moved to new place. 1904 entrance changed and some remodeling done. 1929 hospital moved to Third and Lake. 1933 in summer, building is torn down." -- Charles Puck
