Description
Photograph of Joshua tree (Yucca Mohaveiensis -- Yucca Brevifolia) and horse and buggy carrying two people in the Mojave Desert, [s.d.]. The buggy is pictured at left, carrying two passengers. To the right, a small collection of tall Joshua Trees can be seen. Mountains are visible in the left distance.; "The English company that is to establish a paper factory here to manufacture paper from the yucca palm of the Mojave desert, has established its headquarters on the Tajuta rancho, north of Compton and in the artesian belt. The land cost the company $1100 and the necessary machinery will cost $20,000 more. Their vast area of yucca land cost the company $150,000, so that their whole outlay will amount to about $200,000." -- "50 Years Ago Today" [unidentified newspaper] (16 March 1884).
