Description
Photograph of an aerial view of Los Angeles looking northeast from the intersection of First Street and Vermont Avenue, 1939. The intersection of Rosewood Street and Madison Street is at the center of the image. Thousands of small buildings are visible, separated by a grid of paved roads. A large building with an attached field, possibly a school, can be seen in the foreground at right, while a rectangular park is visible in the background at right. Photoprint reads: "This photograph is loaned to you. Please return to: Illustrator. L.A. City Planning Dept. Rm.361 F City Hall, Los Angeles, California". Photoprint reads: "Spence Air Photos, 2404 W. 7th Street, Los Angeles, Fitzroy 2948".

California Historical Society Collection, 1860-1960
Description
The California Historical Society Collection is incomparable for the documentary picture it provides of the growth of Southern California, particularly the development of the Los Angeles region, between 1860 and 1960. The collection contains more than 25,000 photographs. The full archive was placed on long-term deposit at USC in 1990 and includes the Title Insurance and Trust Company Collection, also known as TICOR, and the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection.
