Photograph of panoramic view of downtown Los Angeles from Allied Crafts Building, March 1927. At right, the intersection of Pico Boulevard and Maple Street can be seen. Two automobiles pass through the intersection, and several more can be seen parked along the sides of the street. At center, clusters of buildings sit in large city blocks. The buildings extend into the far background. In the extreme background, lines of tall buildings and skyscrapers are visible. Beyond the buildings, mountain ranges can be seen.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
