1 image. Ballet master arrival, 13 July 1959. Niels Bjorn Larsen. (Handout).; Supplementary material reads: "Greek Theatre. 2700 N. Vermont. Niels Bjorn Larsen, the world's most celebrated Dr. Coppelius, arrives at the Los Angeles Airport via Scandinavian Arlines System direct from Copenhagen, where he is a ballet master and principal dancer with the Royal Danish Ballet, to rehearse for the Greek Theatre presentation of the gaily sparkling full-length ballet, 'Coppelia,' to be given Monday through Saturday nights, July 20 to 25. Enacting the character of Dr. Coppelius, Larsen will join the famous prima ballerina Alicia Alonso, who dances the central role of Swanilda, and Igor Youskevitch, today's leading male dancer, as the romantic Franz. Miss Alonso also is staging the vivacious three-act ballet for the James A. Doolittle production to the zestful Delibes music".

Description The Los Angeles Examiner Photographs Collection consists of approximately 1.4 million prints and negatives from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper. It was a daily newspaper, published in the afternoon on weekdays (Herald-Express) and in the morning on weekends (Examiner). The afternoon and morning papers merged in 1962 (Herald Examiner).

Coverage is broad including crime, sports, society, art, and entertainment. The collection forms part of the Hearst Collection and was a gift from the Los Angeles Herald Examiner Division of the Hearst Corporation in 1978.

The Los Angeles Examiner Negatives Collection (1950-1961) consists of approximately 215,000 4x5-inch negatives from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper.

The Los Angeles Examiner Prints Collection consists of approximately 1.2 million photoprints from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper.
