Howard Whitson -- 29 years (damage to truck load of crates of ripe plums).; Caption slip reads: "Photographer: Wesselmann. Date: 1957-06-18. Reporter: Decker. Assignment: Plums spilled in N. Hollywood. 6: Howard Whitson, 29, is seen surveying damage to his truck load of 300 crates of ripe plums which were spread over intersection of Lankershim blvd. and Vineland Ave. in North Hollywood last night, when he rammed a milk truck and trailer stopped for a traffic signal. Whitson said his gas pedal jammed and he was unable to release it".

Description The Los Angeles Examiner Photographs Collection consists of approximately 1.4 million prints and negatives from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper. It was a daily newspaper, published in the afternoon on weekdays (Herald-Express) and in the morning on weekends (Examiner). The afternoon and morning papers merged in 1962 (Herald Examiner).

The collection forms part of the Hearst Collection and was a gift from the Los Angeles Herald Examiner Division of the Hearst Corporation in 1978.

The Los Angeles Examiner Negatives Collection (1950-1961) consists of approximately 215,000 4x5-inch negatives from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper.

The Los Angeles Examiner Prints Collection consists of approximately 1.2 million photoprints from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper.
