June 12, 1958 For Immediate Release. George Fenneman to be honorary mayor of Sherman Oaks. George Fenneman, foil for Groucho Marx for many years and star of his own TV show 'Anybody Can Play', jumps into the political arena when he is installed as Honorary Mayor of Sherman Oaks, Thursday, June 12, 8:00 p.m., in Sherman Oaks. The gala dinner party will be attended by top Cuty and County Officials. Among those present will be Supervisor Warren Dorn and Councilman Earle Baker who will present His Honor, the Mayor, George Fenneman, with a gavel in behalf of the Los Angeles Board of Supervisors and the Los Angeles City Council. One of the high points of the evening will be when George Fenneman, who's new show 'Anybody Can Play', debuts on the ABC network Sunday, July 6, 8:30 p.m., accepts the gavel of the ex-Mayor Liberace. At this moment in the ceremony a giant flood of balloons, each marked 'His Honor the Mayor George Fenneman' will cascade down from the ceiling. George, his charming wife Peggy and their three children, Clifford, age 15, Beverly, age 11, and George, age 9, have lived in Sherman Oaks for the past 10 years. George is active in the Boy Scouts of America and his wife Peggy is a member of the P.T.A. -30-".; Supplementary material reads: "Fenneman -- Dorn; gavel presentation. Supervisor Warren Dorn with George Fenneman".

Description
The Los Angeles Examiner Photographs Collection consists of approximately 1.4 million prints and negatives from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper. It was a daily newspaper, published in the afternoon on weekdays (Herald-Express) and in the morning on weekends (Examiner). The afternoon and morning papers merged in 1962 (Herald Examiner).

Almost every event and individual receiving news coverage in Los Angeles during the period late 1920's to 1961 is represented in the collection. Coverage is broad including crime, sports, society, art, and entertainment. The collection forms part of the Hearst Collection and was a gift from the Los Angeles Herald Examiner Division of the Hearst Corporation in 1978.
The Los Angeles Examiner Negatives Collection (1950-1961) consists of approximately 215,000 4x5-inch negatives from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper.
The Los Angeles Examiner Prints Collection consists of approximately 1.2 million photoprints from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper.
