Hudson; Betty White; (hand out).; Supplementary material reads: "ABC Television; Hollywood 27; July 31, 1957. Ground Breaking Ceremony at ABC-TV Center. In ceremonies attended by television and movie stars, civic officials and company executives, ground was broken today (31) for the initial step in the expansion building program which will convert the present television studios of the American Broadcasting Company at Prospect and Talmadge streets into a $30 million Television Center. Earl J. Hudson, ABC vice-president in charge of the Western Division, presided at the brief ceremony which launched the turning of the first dirt. Councilman Ernest E. Debbs, who represents the district at City Hall attended on behalf of civic authorities. ABC stars Betty White, Alice Lon and the Lennon Sisters represented network television, and movie stars Carolyn Jones and MIcky Rooney were on hand to represent the movie industry. Rooney and Miss Jones are filming 'Baby Face Nelson,' a United Artists production at nearby Allied Artists studio. COnverted to television production after World War II, the studios formerly were the home of Vitagraph Productions and served as the studio for the making of many famous movies. Councilman Ernest E. Description
The Los Angeles Examiner Photographs Collection consists of approximately 1.4 million prints and negatives from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper. It was a daily newspaper, published in the afternoon on weekdays (Herald-Express) and in the morning on weekends (Examiner). The afternoon and morning papers merged in 1962 (Herald Examiner).

Almost every event and individual receiving news coverage in Los Angeles during the period late 1920's to 1961 is represented in the collection. Coverage is broad including crime, sports, society, art, and entertainment. The collection forms part of the Hearst Collection and was a gift from the Los Angeles Herald Examiner Division of the Hearst Corporation in 1978.
The Los Angeles Examiner Negatives Collection (1950-1961) consists of approximately 215,000 4x5-inch negatives from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper.
The Los Angeles Examiner Prints Collection consists of approximately 1.2 million photoprints from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper.
