Abstract (if available)
Abstract Bullying has become a major issue in schools throughout our country and all over the world. Whether in elementary, middle, or high school, children are bullying others or are being bullied by others, and intervention plans have not been effective. For one reason or another, teachers in our schools are not reporting each case of bullying as they occur, allowing the bully to continue his or her ways while the victim(s) continue to feel helpless and alone. The purpose of this study was to determine the knowledge, motivation, and organizational (KMO) influences leading to a lack of reporting of bullying by teachers within the school system. Surveys and interviews with elementary school teachers at an urban charter school were conducted in hopes of gaining insight into this dilemma. Results of these surveys and interviews were used to foster a plan for professional development at this school, specifically focused towards lowering the number of incidents of bullying within the school. An anti-bullying plan had been instituted within the school as part of its organizational goal, and part of the survey was to find out just how dedicated the teachers were to this plan. Additionally, the interviews were conducted in hopes of celebrating successes from the plan, with successes being shared across the school. Recommendations on reducing the number of bullying incidents via an established anti-bullying plan, such as the one already in use at the model school, are provided.
