Jerry Farley, 17, of Notre Dame High School, Sherman Oaks, was named best actor of the day, as the Pasadena Playhouse opened its annual One Act Play Tournament. Bill Leslie, Columbia Pictures' young star, presented Farley with the award as the first day of the three-day tourney drew to a close. Farley won plaudits for his role in an original playlet by Brother Dunstan, of the Sherman Oaks school, which also won honors for the best production of the day. Best actress in the day-long parade of high school talent was 16-year-old Mayo Loizeaux, of Immaculate Heart High School in Los Angeles. Miss Loizeaux received her award from Lucy Marlow, Columbia starlet who began her career at the Playhouse. Eleven schools vied for honors before a board of professionals which included Jean Inness, Jean Jory, Dabbs Greer and Ruth Covell. Most prized was the best production citation, which carries with it the Governor Knight Award and a two-year scholarship to the Playhouse College of Theatre Arts. The tournament continues through Wednesday, March 23". Description The Los Angeles Examiner Photographs Collection consists of approximately 1.4 million prints and negatives from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper. It was a daily newspaper, published in the afternoon on weekdays (Herald-Express) and in the morning on weekends (Examiner). The afternoon and morning papers merged in 1962 (Herald Examiner).
