3 images. Two killed in city pump house sewer, Long Beach, 15 February 1952. Covered bodies of McClure and A. E. Rosberg killed by fumes in city sewer pump house, Long Beach; Mrs. Mable McClure (wife of one of the victims); Lee Swope (her brother-in-law); Virginia Sperry (Stepdaughter of victim A. E. Rosberg). (Sleeve states "A-9472").; Caption slip reads: "Photographer: Emery. Date: 1952-02-15. Reporter: Emery. Assignment: 2 men dead in pit, West Broadway on east bank of Los Angeles River, Long Beach. 82: (one shot) Mrs. Mable McClure, whose husband was one of 2 men killed by fumes, being led crying from scene, by her brother-in-law Lee Swope, of 3227 W. 8th Street, Long Beach. McClure address is 322 Temple Avenue, Long Beach. 17, 16: (2 shots) (Covered bodies in foreground). Virginia Sperry, stepdaughter of one of 2 workmen found dead in concrete tank, turns face from tarpaulin-shrouded victims (foreground). In background is city sewer dept. pump house which stands over tank. Virginia Sperry is stepdaughter of victim A. E. Rosberg, 61, of 350 E. 55th Street. Long Beach".

Description
The Los Angeles Examiner Photographs Collection consists of approximately 1.4 million prints and negatives from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper. It was a daily newspaper, published in the afternoon on weekdays (Herald-Express) and in the morning on weekends (Examiner). The afternoon and morning papers merged in 1962 (Herald Examiner).

Almost every event and individual receiving news coverage in Los Angeles during the period late 1920's to 1961 is represented in the collection. Coverage is broad including crime, sports, society, art, and entertainment. The collection forms part of the Hearst Collection and was a gift from the Los Angeles Herald Examiner Division of the Hearst Corporation in 1978.
The Los Angeles Examiner Negatives Collection (1950-1961) consists of approximately 215,000 4x5-inch negatives from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper.
The Los Angeles Examiner Prints Collection consists of approximately 1.2 million photoprints from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper.
