Description
1 image. Official bathing suit to be worn by contestants at Long Beach "Miss Universe" beauty pageant, 20 March 1952. Janet Small, modeling it.; Supplementary material reads: "Phister -- Long Beach. Exclusive L.A. Picture shows Janet Small wearing the official judging suit for the Miss Universe Beauty Pageant to be held in Long Beach, June 23 through June 29. The suit is a two-way stretch boucle lastex [sic] knit with a princess panel front. Metallic rick rack trim is in silver and a darker shade of the same color as the suit. All contestants in the Miss Universe Pageant will wear this identical suit except in various colors in pastel shades of blue, pink, green, gold, and white. It was especially designed to fit snugly and accentuate the figure. The metallic trim will reflect the colored lights that will be flashed on each girl as she makes her appearance on the runway". Edits: "beginning, and the flying fish are, The suits will be presented as gifts to each of the contestants along with an especially designed sweater".

Description The Los Angeles Examiner Photographs Collection consists of approximately 1.4 million prints and negatives from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper. It was a daily newspaper, published in the afternoon on weekdays (Herald-Express) and in the morning on weekends (Examiner). The afternoon and morning papers merged in 1962 (Herald Examiner).

Almost every event and individual receiving news coverage in Los Angeles during the period late 1920's to 1961 is represented in the collection. Coverage is broad including crime, sports, society, art, and entertainment. The collection forms part of the Hearst Collection and was a gift from the Los Angeles Herald Examiner Division of the Hearst Corporation in 1978.

The Los Angeles Examiner Negatives Collection (1950-1961) consists of approximately 215,000 4x5-inch negatives from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper.

The Los Angeles Examiner Prints Collection consists of approximately 1.2 million photoprints from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper.
