Description
1 image. To be guests of Mexican government in celebration of Mexican movie anniversary, 6 December 1951. Salvador Duhart, Consul General of Mexico; Antonio Moreno; Harpo Marx; Armando Del Morale, Mexican News Correspondent; Alexis Smith; Craig Stevens; Phyllis Taylor; Patricia Neil; Marta Toren; Paul Kohner; Arlene Dehl; Lex Barker; Don Taylor; David Wayne; Jane Wayne; Baroness Von Kories, of Mexico City; Groucho Marx.; Supplementary material reads: "Photo Room. 1951-12-06. Special to Los Angeles Examiner. Twelve highly excited Hollywood stars boarded a Compania Mexicana de Aviacion-Pan American Airways -- DC-6 here last night (5th) headed for a week of festivities as guests of the Mexican government, celebrating a Mexican movie anniversary. En route to the capitol of Mexico were Harpo Marx, David Wayne, Groucho Marx, Marta Toren, Don Taylor, Pat Neal, Arlene Dahl and hubby Lex Barker, Alexis Smith and hubby Craig Stevens, Lupita Tovar and husband Paul Kohner, Antonio Moreno, and Arthur Jacobs, public relations adviser. The group was seen off at international airport by Salvador Duhart, Consul-General of Mexico in Los Angeles, who arranged the junket at the request of the Mexican govenment and the Mexican film industry. Held to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Mexico's first talking picture, the festivities will include receptions, dinner and presentation of medallions by President Aleman of Mexico, side trips to Acapulco, Cuernavaca and Xochimilco, and a dedication of prize bulls to the group at the biggest bullfight of the year next Wednesday in Mexico City. First talking film made by Mexico was 'Santa', starring Lupita Tovar, and directed by Antonio Moreno, now an actor in Hollywood. Both are going with the group. Miss Tovar is now the wife of Paul Kohner, prominent Hollywood agent. During the trip the group will tour theatres and witness special performances in person by leading Mexican stars, including the world-famous comedian, Cantinflas. All members of the group have been asked to bring bathing suits, not to pose for cheesecake (necessarily), but because the weather is summery in Mexico now and the players will take dips and swim, breaking the monotony of the current cold spell in Los Angeles. They will be bivouacked at the swank Continental Reforma Hotel, latest in the burst of Mexican hotel-building. They will return to Hollywood after the festivities next Thursday".
