Description
1 image. Neil Chantry (Vice President and Senior Member of the City of Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners), 11 December 1951. Arrival home after 26 goodwill trade tour throughout the world. (Handout).; Supplementary material reads: "TWA Public Relations, Los Angeles, MI. 8141. (Emmet Jordan -- Joe Cordova). For immediate release: 1951-12-12. Kenneth? Neil Chantry, vice president and senior member of the city of Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners, who along with Mayor Fletcher Bowron made a 26-day goodwill trade tour throughout the world, arrived home last night via TWA Constellation with optimistic views about increased trade for Los Angeles harbor. The mayor, said Mr. Chantry, is expected to arrive via TWA Friday from Washington, D.C. Mr. Chantry stated that after conferring with about 5,000 shippers on the goodwill trip they uncovered potential two-way trade for the Los Angeles area running into thousands of dollars. 'Carrying the message of Los Angeles to these foreign lands', was a pleasure', he said, and I might point out also that I was very impressed, also, with the manner in which many of the countries I visited are getting back on their feet through renewed commerce. They are becoming less and less dependent on United States economic aid, EGA'. Cities visited were Honolulu, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Calcutta, Karachi, Cairo, Athens, Rome, Zurich, Frankfurt, Berlin, Hamburg, Amsterdam, Paris, and London".
