1 image. Chest Welfare Federation, 22 January 1952. Walter R. Hoefflin, Junior; Doctor H. C. Pulley (Chief Assistant Health Officer of City Health Department); J. Howard Ziemann (Legal Counsel of Queen of Angels Hospital).; Supplementary material reads: "Chest-Welfare Federation. Rhodes -- MI 8821. With plateholder. Picture -- Hospital and Clinic Committee members. Urges hospital construction -- Walter R. Hoefflin, Jr., right, told the Hospital and Clinic Committee of the Welfare Council of Metropolitan Los Angeles yesterday that State aid is necessary if this city is to build the new hospitals it needs. Shown with Hoefflin are Dr. H. C. Pulley, (left) Chief Assistant Health Officer of the City Health Department and J. Howard Ziemann, legal counsel for Queen of Angels Hospital where the committee met. Hoefflin said Los Angeles needs 10,000 more hospital beds to catch up with needs. He urged that California be asked to do as much as the Federal Government, which will pay one-third the cost of approved hospital construction". Edits: "Sister Raymond, who, with her staff at Queen of Angels Hospital, were hosts to the committee meeting".

Description
The Los Angeles Examiner Photographs Collection consists of approximately 1.4 million prints and negatives from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper. It was a daily newspaper, published in the afternoon on weekdays (Herald-Express) and in the morning on weekends (Examiner). The afternoon and morning papers merged in 1962 (Herald Examiner).

Almost every event and individual receiving news coverage in Los Angeles during the period late 1920's to 1961 is represented in the collection. Coverage is broad including crime, sports, society, art, and entertainment. The collection forms part of the Hearst Collection and was a gift from the Los Angeles Herald Examiner Division of the Hearst Corporation in 1978.
The Los Angeles Examiner Negatives Collection (1950-1961) consists of approximately 215,000 4x5-inch negatives from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper.
The Los Angeles Examiner Prints Collection consists of approximately 1.2 million photoprints from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper.
