1 image. Sixth Annual Football Festival, 06 August 1951. Miss Donna Freedman; Beth Jelm; Mayor Fletcher Bowron.; Supplementary material reads: "#15 neg. for Examiner. Miss Donna Freedman of the University of Southern California receives an invitation to represent her school at the Berkeley Junior Chamber of Commerce's Sixth Annual Football Festival. Coeds from ten of the nation's most prominate(?)  universities will be flown to Berkeley on September 17th for a week of festival activities climaxed by the selection of the nation's 'Miss Football of 1951'. Miss Beth Jelm of No. Hollywood, who is the Festival Hostess and a student of the University of California at Berkeley, made the presentation in the Mayor's office. Miss Freedman is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Freedman of 1412 North Crescent Heights. Shown in the Mayor's office reading the invitation are l t r: Beth Jelm, Mayor Fletcher Bowron and Donna Freedman. (Miss Freedman was selected previously by members of USC's football team to represent the school)".

Description The Los Angeles Examiner Photographs Collection consists of approximately 1.4 million prints and negatives from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper. It was a daily newspaper, published in the afternoon on weekdays (Herald-Express) and in the morning on weekends (Examiner). The afternoon and morning papers merged in 1962 (Herald Examiner).

Almost every event and individual receiving news coverage in Los Angeles during the period late 1920's to 1961 is represented in the collection. Coverage is broad including crime, sports, society, art, and entertainment. The collection forms part of the Hearst Collection and was a gift from the Los Angeles Herald Examiner Division of the Hearst Corporation in 1978.

The Los Angeles Examiner Negatives Collection (1950-1961) consists of approximately 215,000 4x5-inch negatives from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper.

The Los Angeles Examiner Prints Collection consists of approximately 1.2 million photoprints from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper.
