Photograph on an architectural drawing of the new County Courthouse. "In 1957, this new County Courthouse should be completed at First Street and Hill Street. The behemoth will contain 105 courtrooms, plus a number of offices. The estimated cost of the trim, modernistic facility is about $20,000,000" -- Examiner clipping attached to verso, dated, "June 18, 1956".; "...is the new Courthouse presently under construction. This building will contain approximately 684,000 gross square feet, and will include 105 courtrooms, in which will be housed all of the civil departments of the Superior and Municipal Courts. In addition, it will house the County Clerk, the Clerk of the Municipal Court, the Marshal of the Municipal Courts, and the Civil Division of the Sheriff's Office. Construction is expected to be completed about the end of 1957. The total cost of the building will be approximately 20 million dollars exclusive of land. This building is being constructed from County funds which have been accumulated over a period of about 10 years. Approximately 8 million dollars is still required to complete and furnish the building, of which four million dollars is included in the 1856-57 budget, and the balance will be provided in 1957-58 " -- typed note attached to verso. Description The Los Angeles Examiner Photographs Collection consists of approximately 1.4 million prints and negatives from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper. It was a daily newspaper, published in the afternoon on weekdays (Herald-Express) and in the morning on weekends (Examiner). The afternoon and morning papers merged in 1962 (Herald Examiner).

The collection forms part of the Hearst Collection and was a gift from the Los Angeles Herald Examiner Division of the Hearst Corporation in 1978.

The Los Angeles Examiner Negatives Collection (1950-1961) consists of approximately 215,000 4x5-inch negatives from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper.

The Los Angeles Examiner Prints Collection consists of approximately 1.2 million photoprints from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper.
