1 image. Arrival, 25 October 1951. Frederick Selmer (famous Norwegian Contractor). (Handout).; Supplementary material reads: "News Bureau. United Air Lines. Bill O'Hern. MAdison 6-6311. Frederick Selmer, famous Norwegian contractor, arrived in Los Angeles today from Oslo via Scandinavian and United Air Lines. The head of F. Selmer, Inc., will visit friends and business associates here before proceeding to Australia where his firm has been awarded a 3 1/2 million pound (approximately 7 1/2 million dollars) contract by the Australian government to build several dams and tunnels in Southern Australia. The Norwegian builder, who celebrates his 75th birthday here today, says that 400 Norwegian workers will be flown from Oslo to Sydney to work on the projects there. The dams and tunnels will be part of an Australian irrigation and electric power project similar to our TVA". Note" "He is staying at the Town House".

Description The Los Angeles Examiner Photographs Collection consists of approximately 1.4 million prints and negatives from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper. It was a daily newspaper, published in the afternoon on weekdays (Herald-Express) and in the morning on weekends (Examiner). The afternoon and morning papers merged in 1962 (Herald Examiner).

Coverage is broad including crime, sports, society, art, and entertainment. The collection forms part of the Hearst Collection and was a gift from the Los Angeles Herald Examiner Division of the Hearst Corporation in 1978.

The Los Angeles Examiner Negatives Collection (1950-1961) consists of approximately 215,000 4x5-inch negatives from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper.

The Los Angeles Examiner Prints Collection consists of approximately 1.2 million photoprints from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper.
