Photograph of a drawing. "California Hospital, left, will get a brother, right -- The new structure will afford space for medical specialists and dentists. -- California Medical on Hope Street sold -- Sale of the California Medical Building at 1401 South Hope Street and six adjoining lots by the Lutheran Hospital Society of Les Kelley Enterprises is announced by Kelley and [...]rger Tinglof, president of the society. -- The nine-story building will be imporved and made a part of California Hospital and Medical Center. A second building with space for medical specialists, dentists and other health facilities is planned. -- Work on a new wing of California Hospital is scheduled to being [i.e., begin] in 1962, with 1965 as the target date for completion of the Medical Center." -- Examiner clipping attached to verso, dated 10 July 1961.; Streetscape. Description The Los Angeles Examiner Photographs Collection consists of approximately 1.4 million prints and negatives from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper. It was a daily newspaper, published in the afternoon on weekdays (Herald-Express) and in the morning on weekends (Examiner). The afternoon and morning papers merged in 1962 (Herald Examiner).

Almost every event and individual receiving news coverage in Los Angeles during the period late 1920's to 1961 is represented in the collection. Coverage is broad including crime, sports, society, art, and entertainment. The collection forms part of the Hearst Collection and was a gift from the Los Angeles Herald Examiner Division of the Hearst Corporation in 1978.

The Los Angeles Examiner Negatives Collection (1950-1961) consists of approximately 215,000 4x5-inch negatives from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper.

The Los Angeles Examiner Prints Collection consists of approximately 1.2 million photoprints from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper.
