Description
Photograph of a drawing of the Title Insurance & Trust Company home office, 433 South Spring Street, downtown Los Angeles with annex. "A major real estate transaction was reported today (Nov. 1952) with the announcement that Title Insurance and Trust Company has purchased the thirteen-story Metropolitan Garage Building at 417 South Spring Street. -- The huge, concrete and steele structrure which adjoins the Home Office of the title company was purchased from Bentley J. Tufeld, head of the corporation which owns the building, at an undisclosed figure. Constructed in 1928, the building has been operated as a public garage by Tufeld and his associates. The building will be remodeled for sole use of the title company. Remodling is scheduled to begin on December 1st. -- In discussing the transaction, W. Herbert Allen, president of Title Insurance Trust Company said, 'The vast real estate and loan activities in this area have brought about a corresponding increase in our own title and trust business. Because our title plant contains all of the records of Los Angeles County land back to the days of the Spanish ranchos, and since there are thousands o new items added to our records daily, it has been necessary for us to greatly expand our facilities.' -- Expressing continued optimism for the future, Mr. Allen continued: 'Acquisition of the new building, which has 168,000 square feet of floor space, will enable us to continue to grow with greater Los Angeles and the surrounding area'." --; "Title Insurance and Trust Company, which will celebrate its 60th anniversay next year, is one of America's largest title companies and it is Southern California's oldest trust company. The company opened its doors for business in a three-story building at the corner of New High and Franklin Strteets in the early 90's. -- The eleven-story building at 433 South Spring Street, which now houses the Home Office, is also undergoing extensive remodeling. Escalators are being installed between the third and fifth floors to facilitate employee traffic. Officers of the company also stated that new and larger quarters are planned for employee recreation and the company cafeteria. When remodeling is completed, it will be one of Los Angeles' most modern office buildings." -- typed press release attached to verso.
