Stuart, President of the Air Force Association, presents award; Major General William M. Morgan, Head of Western Air Procurement District; Major General Emmett O'Donnell, Commander, 15th Air Force; Thomas G. Lanphier, Chairman of the Board of the Air Force Association; C. R. Smith, President of American Airlines; General Carl A. Spaatz, Retired Air Force Chief of Staff; General Jimmy Doolittle.; Supplementary material reads: "Caption for attached photo: Honored For Airpower Work -- John A. McCone, chairman of Pacific Far East Lines and president of Joshua -Hendy Corp., accepts a special Air Force Association award for outstanding work toward rebuilding U. S. air strength during his recent service as Undersecretary of the Air Force. Presenting the award at the California Club in Los Angeles is Harold C. Stuart, president of the Air Force Association, with a group of guests including (l. to r.) Major General William M. Morgan, head of the Western Air Procurement District; Major General Emmet O'Donnell who commands the 15th Air Force; Thomas G. Lanphier, chairman of the board of the Air Force Association; Mccone and Stuart; C. R. Smith, president of American Airlines; retired Air Force chief of staff Gen. Carl A. Spaatz; and Gen. Jimmy Doolittle. Scores of aviation leaders and Southern California notables attended the informal dinner and ceremony at which McCone was cited for 'outstanding public service contributing to the postwar reconstruction of American airpower'. Description
The Los Angeles Examiner Photographs Collection consists of approximately 1.4 million prints and negatives from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper. It was a daily newspaper, published in the afternoon on weekdays (Herald-Express) and in the morning on weekends (Examiner). The afternoon and morning papers merged in 1962 (Herald Examiner).

Almost every event and individual receiving news coverage in Los Angeles during the period late 1920's to 1961 is represented in the collection. Coverage is broad including crime, sports, society, art, and entertainment. The collection forms part of the Hearst Collection and was a gift from the Los Angeles Herald Examiner Division of the Hearst Corporation in 1978.
The Los Angeles Examiner Negatives Collection (1950-1961) consists of approximately 215,000 4x5-inch negatives from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper.
The Los Angeles Examiner Prints Collection consists of approximately 1.2 million photoprints from the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper.
