Description
Text continues: "As girls, we scoured our health textbook and Webster's Third for any small mention of the 'L word.' In college, we voraciously devoured The Well of Loneliness, Mary McCarthy's The Women and Sappho's fragmented poetry, still hunting for some mention of the love that dare not speak its name. Well, that lobe--being no longer bound nor gagged (as tightly, anyway)--has found its voice. There's been a veritable explosion in available lesbian fiction and non-fiction in the past few years. Continuing a tradition that began in 1984, A Different Light bookstore in Silver Lake presents a lesbian writers series, where women who identify as lesbians can read their poetry and prose; unpublished talent, as well as big names (Katherine Forrest, Alice Bloch, Valerie Miner), have been featured. Curated by former bookstore employee Ann Bradley, this event takes place monthly (how appropriate!), usually on the third Saturday. 4014 Santa Monica Blvd., Silver Lake." Black text on white background.Poster is laminated.

Best Place To Meet a
Literate Lesbian
Lesbian . Writers Series. As girls; we
scoured our health textbook and Webster's
Third for any small mention of the “L
word.” In college, we voraciously
devoured The Well of Loneliness, Mary
McCarthy’s The Women and Sappho’s
fragmented poetry, still hunting for some —
mention of the Love That Dare Not Speak
Its Name. Well, that Love — being no
longer bound nor gagged (as tightly.,
anyway) — has found its voice. There's
been-a veritable explosion in available les-.
bian fiction and non-fiction in the past few |
years. Continuing a tradition that began in
1984, A Different Light bookstore in Silver
Lake presents a Lesbian Writers Series,
where women who identify as lesbians can _
read. their poetry and prose; unpublished
talent, as well as big names (Katherine
Forrest, Alice Bloch, Valerie Miner), have
been featured. Curated by former book-
store employee Ann Bradley, this event
takes place monthly (how appropriate!),
usually on the third Saturday. 4014 Santa
Monica Blvd., Silver Lake; (213) 668-0629.
