DAY WITHOUT ART
The International Day of Action and Mourning in Response to the AIDS Crisis
In November of 1992, this woman went to Washington D.C. to scatter the cremated remains of
a loved one on the White House Lawn. In that election year, those of us living with and
concerned about AIDS were angry at government inaction on AIDS research, treatment,
prevention, education, and legal protection. Four years later, AIDS Commission reports are still
unimplemented, people with AIDS are still fired from their jobs, separated from their children,
and forced into poverty by ill-designed welfare, disability, and entitlement bureaucracies. In this
election year, the rights of people with AIDS and the disenfranchised continue to be ignored.
