OF CTO
OF THE GAY AcTIVisTS’
ALLIANG,
the gay activists’ alliance is beseiged by a pernicious sickness. the "leaders" (or, “power clioue", if you will) of
G.A.A. have "logicly" concluded that since they are the group that holds power in G.A.4., fhe organization should
dissolve its democratic parliamentary procedure structure, and give full authority over to them. this would be
accomplished by a constitutional amendment, which would create a Board of Directers. the Board of Directers, &
naturally, would consist of these “leaders”, but the membership.would also be able to vote in the Board annually,
meeting monthly to make “suggestions” to the Board, although they would have no other voting power, leaving all policy
decisions to the Board. in other words, since these "leaders" do not know how to (or do not care to) function within
a democraticly structured organization, the gay community should therefore allow them to do away with a gay group that
allows every member an equal voice.
firstly, the gay civil rights and gay liberation movements should have many different groups with many a varied and
different a structure to get all the work done. THE MOVEMENT CAN USE, AND NEEDS, THESE "LEADERS" NEW GROUP STRUCTURE ,
BUT MUST A DEMOCRATIC ORGANIZATION FALL IN ORDER FOR IT TO COME INTO EXISTENCE? this group of people claims that
G.A.A. WIL] fall unless this constitutional amendment is adopted, and they will leave if it does not pass, thus
“insuring” the death of G.A.A. Must they threaten us like this? whatever happens, they will create this group,
inside or outside of G.A.A., So why don't they do it outside of G.A.A.? why do they insist that the structure is
unworkable, when they have made little effort to keep it workable-and democratic? WHY DON®T THEY LEAVE THE
ORGANIZATION TO THOSE WHO STILL HAVE FAITH IN THE DEMOCRATIC PROCESS? merely to want to use the name of G.A.A. is
wrong, because the past history of G.A.A. has always been one of fierce support fipr the democratic process.
secondly, the general meetings of G.A.A., although hardly perfect, are exactly what have made G.A.A, 80 famous and
respected. for gay liberation is actually being molded every week at these meetings, making G.&A4. the dynamic
organization that it has been. Mere the gay community has spoken on fundamental issues, such as our relations with
other politicak parties, the complicated issue of transvestism, sexism in the movement, and important strategic
‘questions in regard to gay demonstrations. TO END THIS CONTINUAL DIALOGUE AND DEBATE WOULD BE DISASTEROUS, TOC END A
GAY ORGANIZATION WHERE EACH MEMBER HAS AN EQUAL VOICE WOULD BE JUST AS DISASTEROUS, FOR IT IS THE SAME THING.

the resources of the firehouse must be used as the gay community decides, not by a Board of Directers, whose very
“leadership” abilities are highly questionable. who shall they lead? they will have enough trouble leading their own
true autonomous lives, in a world where almost everyone wants to lead or be ledd if G.A.A. Falls, it will be because
the gay community has decided that it should fall. and if so, then it should. the name” of the organization should
not be saved. and if it does fall, i ll be because the time has not come for a gay democratic organization to
exist. but it will survive, if we all demand to LIVE NW!

PROTEST THE STEALING OF THE FIREHOUSE FROM THE GAY COMMUNITY!!!
DEMOCRACY IS ONLY FOR THOSE WHO FIGHT FOR IT!!!
People will be meeting at G.A.A. At Sp.m., Tuesfay, September 25, 99 Wooster St. New York, N.Y. 10012 tel. 966-7870 to
Giscuss this issue.
If you can't attend, be sure to find out when the issue will be brought to the general membership of G.A.A. (either
this week or next) so that this absurdity can be stopped,
LIBERATE G.A.A.!!-!GAY POWER AND LIBERATION!!!STOP THE HOMOFACISTS!!!
