Description
Text continues: "Are you a risk? L.A. County declares state of health alert syphilis outbreak. A surge of primary and secondary syphilis infections has been reported since March 6; all cases were men who reported having sex with male partners. You need to know that syphilis can go unnoticed and be easily spread. Syphilis and other STD's increase the spread of HIV. There is a 2 to 5 fold increased risk of acquiring HIV infection when syphilis is present. Co-infection of HIV and syphilis may complicate the treatment of both diseases. The risk of syphilis treatment failure increase in the presence of HIV. People with HIV and syphilis may be at higher risk for neurosyphilis. A single painless lesion may develop within 3-4 weeks of infection. Using a condom correctly and consistently can reduce the risk of STDs, including HIV. You can take action. Syphilis is a highly treatable disease. The spread of syphilis can be stopped by treating all recent sex partner before it can be spread to others. You can get tested." Black, blue, and red text on white background. The upper half of the poster contains a color photograph of two men sitting side-by-side; their lower halves wrapped in white towels.
