In her talk, “Los Angeles: Cradle of American Modern Dance…and Why It Matters,” Sasha will lead us
through the historical understanding of movement and gesture in modern dance; from its cultural
epicenter in Los Angeles to its explosion throughout the country — and the world — producing such
luminaries as Martha Graham, Lester Horton, Bella Lewitzky, Carmen de Lavallade and Alvin Ailey.
