Description

Photograph of exterior view of Federal Building and Post Office, [s.d.]. In the foreground at right, a statue of a man wearing a long coat and hard hat can be seen facing towards the background. To the left, a wooden bench and stone bench can be seen on a small patch of lawn. A man can be seen sitting on the left side of the bench looking towards the background. In the background at center, a large rectangular structure composed of smaller rectangular sections at its base is visible. Windows line all visible sides of the building. Along the base of the building at center, a group of four columns can be seen. A flagpole supporting an American flag is visible near the columns. The flag waves in the wind. In the extreme background to the far left and right, additional buildings are visible.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
