Description
Photograph of a northward view of Broadway from between Fourth Street and Fifth Street in Los Angeles, ca.1909. Broadway runs from the foreground at left into the distance at right. It is unpaved and has two sets of streetcar tracks running down the middle. Several large streetcars and horse-drawn vehicles can be seen in the middle of the road, while many early-model automobiles are parked along the sides. The concrete sidewalks that border the street are packed with pedestrians, and several pedestrians are crossing the road. Large three- and four-story buildings line the road. The shops on the first floor of the buildings on the far side of the street have awnings in front.
