Description
Photograph of the exterior view of the Rosslyn Hotel on Main Street, looking south from Winston Street, 1905. The façade of this four-story building is symmetric. There are two fire escape ladders at each end of the building. Attached to the fire escape ladders is a pipe with valves (faucet) at each fire escape ladder well. The first floor consists mostly of stores with their own unique window advertisements and displays. A man is standing in front of the "wines & liquor" store. To the right of the building is a small shack on the corner of an empty lot. The lot is littered with debris. To the left is Hotel Lexington.; Legible signs include: "Lexington Hotel", "Holmes Book Co.", "Land & Lee's Dictionary", "the Lexington café", "last week price 75¢", "note books", "law and medical", "school books", "regular meals, 25¢", "Hotel Rosslyn dining parlors", "the Hotel Rosslyn", "R.D. Bronson Desk Co.", "433", "Hart Bros. Props", "barber", "429, wines & liquors", "Mont[...] [...]monga, Vineyard Co.", "family trade, solicited, no bar", "XLNT", "A.P. Johnson", "C.J. Ball", "long drinks in small bottles, Aetna Splits, the new size", "up ... feet trim", and "Ed Herwick".
